Online Shopping Trends: Fast Fashion
When all was shut down in 2020, shopping online was our only option. This was the spark of the online store SheIn.
SheIn was originally created 15 years ago in China as an online fast-fashion corporation. Due to TikTok, their audience has grown exponentially. As of May 2021, the SheIn’s app and website had the same amount of traction as Amazon's.
This online trend grew during the pandemic and continues today. The easy access to endless fashion options is what increased their business. But just because it is easy does not mean that it is right.
SheIn is also known for being involved in Fast Fashion techniques to produce their products. If you are unaware of what fast fashion is, it is a production technique used by big companies to mass-produce clothing in ways that negatively impact the environment and people.
Fast fashion is proven to not be sustainable and harmful to the environment. The workers are also forced to work in sweatshops and are severely underpaid.
Many popular stores such as H&M or Forever21 stick to this technique and have grown popular because of the fast fashion technique. Stores in South Korea have started using this to produce trendy products and ship them out efficiently.
We as consumers need to be aware of what brands we support and what our money is going towards. For those that are interested in how to stop fast fashion, there are many resources available for you to use. There are many blogs, online magazines, and organizations that have articles on how you can make an impact on ending this movement.
